heat pump hot water buffer tank

As part of a heat pump heating system, the buffer tank plays a role in reducing pressure and protecting the operating main unit.
It is mainly connected in series in an air source heat pump system to increase the water capacity of a small system, storing cooling or heating energy. This effectively solves the problems of load fluctuations and frequent start-ups of the main unit caused by an undersized system, thereby extending equipment life and saving energy.

Buffer tanks offer five key benefits: storage, buffering, automatic venting, stabilization, and cleaning.

Many manufacturers omit buffer tanks to save costs, leading to continuous high-load operation of the heat pump system and increasing the risk of unit malfunction. Furthermore, the unit stops operating during defrosting, impacting heating efficiency.

Conversely, with a buffer tank, hot water is stored at a constant temperature. When the water reaches the set temperature, the unit stops operating, reducing the workload and frequency of operation, thus meeting users' heating needs at different times. High-load operation without pressure relief significantly reduces the unit's lifespan. Unstable operation due to high pressure can trigger pressure protection, resulting in frequent shutdowns, discontinuous heat supply, and pipe leaks, increasing maintenance requirements.

Buffer tanks release some of the system's operating pressure. The tank's superior pressure resistance absorbs and mitigates the circulating pressure generated during system operation, ensuring hydraulic balance within the system pipes, maintaining a continuous and stable heating temperature, and extending the unit's lifespan.
